Fujn’s News of the Week #02 start with: Bali to issue a 5-year ‘digital nomad’ visa and tax-free stay for remote workers

The Indonesian government is planning to grant a 5 year “digital nomad” visa. This will help the remote employees to work and live tax free in the country, beginning August 2022. This is an attempt to promote tourism and reach pre-pandemic levels. Notably, the workers with this new visa will no longer have to face the challenges of extending their visas every few months. Moreover, it will abolish the risk of deportation for breaking the rules.

Currently, visitors can get a tourist visa for either 60 days or a maximum of 6-months temporary work permit. However, in case the stay exceeds 183 days in a year, the visitor becomes a local tax resident. As a result, any overseas income earned comes under the Indonesian tax rates, leading to double taxation. With the new rules in place, any overseas income earned while working on this visa will be exempted from tax.

Is There a Tampon Shortage in 2022?

Tampon shortage

Tampon shortage

According to Bloomberg, the average prices for tampons rose 9.8% in 2021, and prices for menstrual pads rose 8.3%, largely due to the increasing costs of the paper and plastic materials. Due to global pandemic and stressed supply chain system, the manufacturers are either struggling to source raw materials needed to produce tampons or facing staffing shortages in their factories, which has impacted production time and turnaround.
